Packaging Instructions

The following instructions must be followed when packaging your bullion for shipment to The Tulving Company.

These instructions are based on over 15 years worth of experience shipping bullion. They may seem unnecessary to you, but our experience has shown them to be of the utmost importance.

Important!! The Tulving Company and its Insurer, Lloyds of London, are not responsible for items lost or damaged during shipment as a result of non-compliance to these instructions.

These instructions are divided into two groups, one for Gold, Platinum and Palladium, the other for Silver.

Gold, Platinum and Palladium

  1. Do not ship Silver in the same package with your Gold, Platinum, or Palladium (Ship Silver separately).

  2. Prepare your coins, bars, etc. appropriately...

Coins are best shipped in their Mint tubes, with the caps taped down to prevent them from opening. Partial tubes should be stuffed with tissue paper to prevent the coins from banging around during shipment. Flips can be used, but should be bubble wrapped or rubber banded together in groups. Coins in large sheets, such as Gold Buffalos or Palladium Maple Leafs, should be packaged flat or rolled, never folded, and then bubble wrapped. Never ship coins loose.

Bars are best shipped in their Mint packaging and individually wrapped with paper or bubble wrap to prevent chafing. Bars without mint packaging should be placed in a plastic bag, and then individually wrapped with paper or bubble wrap.

  3. Total value for each package must not exceed $100,000. (Shipping multiple packages is fine, as long as each package does not exceed $100,000)

  4. Double box all items...

Use a small box that will fit your prepared items securely, while not leaving a large amount of remaining space to fill with packaging material. We use bubble wrap. Our tubes, bars, etc.. are wrapped individually or in groups, so that when placed in the box there is no remaining space. Other packaging material can be used, newspaper, brown paper, foam peanuts, etc. to fill the remaining space. Your goal here is to make sure that your prepared items are tightly packed in the box. Remember that some packaging materials, like foam peanuts, will settle, or be crushed slightly during shipping, so you want to slightly overfill the box to allow for shrinkage. Packaging material and small boxes can be purchased inexpensively at your local Mail Boxes Etc... or similar shipping store. Keep in mind the value of the items you are shipping. Spending a small amount of money and time to protect your investment is money well spent.

Now pack this small box inside a larger box. This may seem unnecessary, but it is important for two reasons. Should the outer box acquire a small hole or tear during shipment, no one will be able to look inside and see the contents, all they will see is another box. This will also prevent any of the small contents, tubes, bars, etc... from spilling out. UPS has a nice box, available for free at UPS Customer Centers, and it's the one we use when we ship. The box is called a "Medium Express Box" and looks like this...

but they have many "Express Boxes" in several different sizes, just pick the one that fits your smaller box well, without leaving a large amount of remaining space. The goal here is to package your smaller box tightly inside the outer box. We use foam peanuts to fill the remaining space, but newspaper, brown paper, bubble wrap, etc... work well too, just make sure you pack it tight. Be thorough in your packaging; your shipment is worth a lot of money, right?

Silver

  1. Do not ship Gold, Platinum, or Palladium in the same package with your Silver (Ship Gold, Platinum, or Palladium separately).

  2. Prepare your monster boxes, coins, rounds, bars, 90% bags, etc. appropriately...

Monster boxes are, by default, already packaged appropriately.

Coins like Eagles and Maples, that are not in Monster Boxes, should be shipped in their Mint tubes, with the caps taped down to prevent them from opening. Partial tubes should be stuffed with tissue paper to prevent the coins from banging around during shipment. Never ship coins loose.

Silver rounds, like Buffalos and A-mark rounds, should be shipped in tubes, with the caps taped down to prevent them from opening. Partial tubes should be stuffed with tissue paper to prevent the rounds from banging around during shipment. Never ship Silver rounds loose.

Bars should be placed in individual plastic bags, and then individually wrapped with paper or bubble wrap.

Bags of 90% and 40% silver should be zip tied at the top.

  3. The maximum number of ounces of Silver, per package, must not exceed the following...

One 1,000 ounce bar, per package.

One $1,000 face value bag of 90% or 40% silver, per package.

500 ounces, combined weight, for all other types of Silver, per package.

  4. Double box all items...

Monster boxes are considered suitable, and only need to placed inside an outer box.

Use a small box that will fit your prepared items securely, while not leaving a large amount of remaining space to fill with packaging material. Use bubble wrap, newspaper, brown paper, foam peanuts, etc. to fill the remaining space. Your goal here is to make sure that your prepared items are tightly packed in the box. Remember that some packaging materials, like foam peanuts, will settle, or be crushed slightly during shipping, so you want to slightly overfill the box to allow for shrinkage. Packaging material and small boxes can be purchased cheaply at your local Mail Boxes Etc... or similar shipping store.

UPS has many "Express Boxes" in several different sizes, just pick the one that fits your smaller box well, without leaving a large amount of remaining space. The goal here is to package your smaller box tightly inside the outer box. We use special outer boxes that fit the smaller inner box perfectly, but newspaper, brown paper, bubble wrap, etc... work well too, just make sure you pack it tight. Be thorough in your packaging; your shipment is worth a lot of money, right?

IMPORTANT NOTICE
FACTORS YOU MUST CONSIDER IN PURCHASING COINS AND BULLION ITEMS

RISK: The purchase of coins or bullion items are highly speculative and involves substantial risk. As in other markets, coins or bullion prices can be extremely volatile and will rise and fall depending upon market conditions. Therefore, before purchasing coins or bullion, you should first have adequate cash reserves and other assets to absorb a potentially significant loss. Sorry, but we do not make recommendations, we think you should buy what you want.

HOLDING PERIOD: Historically, few coins or bullion items  have appreciated dramatically in the short term. Therefore, purchasers should recognize that it may well be necessary for them to hold coins for a 3 - 5 year period, or even a 5 - 10 year period, to have any chance of realizing a significant   gain.
